The Novotel Market Traders Association, (Odawna) of the General Agricultural Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress, has congratulated President John Dramani Mahama for the nomination of Nana Oye Lithur as Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
A statement signed by Mr Samuel Turkson, Secretary of the Association and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said: "Subject to the approval of the Appointment Committee of Parliament, we thank you for the nomination."
The statement said Nana Oye Lithur has taken the pain for a long time as an individual to address the issues of gender, children and social protection and expressed the hope that she would live up to expectation.
It said: "We hope she will use the ministry to address issues that has become chronic to the nation such as child abuse, neglect by parents and under age street hawkers."
The statement called on her to cooperate with the Ministry of Social Welfare, Local Government and Rural Development and other institutions to address the situation.
