Mr David Afoko, the Builsa North District Chief Executive (DCE), in the Upper East Region has said the one District one Factory policy when implemented efficiently would curb rural - urban migration in the country.
Mr Afoko said the factories would create enough employment at the district level to absorb all the young people who otherwise would have migrated to the southern sector in search of jobs.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Sandema, the district capital, Mr Afoko said it would alleviate poverty as it was aimed at creating viable agricultural opportunities for the people especially the youth in the area.
He said the area was endowed with agricultural potential such as groundnuts, sheanuts, rice, and mango among others which could be used to establish agro-processing plants in the area to engage the youth so as to prevent them from engaging in nefarious activities such as robbery, stealing and violence.
Mr Afoko lamented on the illegal logging in the area particularly rosewoods and noted that the Assembly had introduced measures including; the arrest of illegal chain operators for prosecution.
He urged the people to support government policies that would help improve their lives.
