Mr Thomas Kusi Boafo, the Chief Executive Officer, Public Sector Reforms has stressed the need for public servants and well-meaning Ghanaians to focus on national development rather than personal and selfish gains.
“There is the need for a comprehensive attitudinal change and for public servants to move away from being self-serving to pursuing national and public interest”.
Mr Boafo at a stakeholders’ engagement on the "National Public Sector Reforms Strategy Document (NPSRS) 2018-2023" said the public sector had been characterised by bad behaviours such as apathy, ineptitude and corruption. Other illshe mentioned as; poor records management leading to loss of millions of Cedis in judgment debts, poor service delivery at all sectoral levels which were not in alignment with global best practices.
The CEO noted that the ills and wrongs had led to the loss of trust and confidence in most public institutions and had necessitated a new public sector that was responsive, efficient and effective in service delivery.
The NPSRS document would therefore serve as the base to correcting the shortfalls in the administrative service delivery system. The document further sought to build effective and efficient government machinery through the training of public service delivery actors at both the leadership and operational levels.
Mr Boafo added that the move would also sanitize the physical work environment of public servants and make available the needed tools and resources to engender a world class service delivery performance.
"The strategy adopted would be based on purpose, people and the processes to create prosperity and equal opportunities for all", he explained.
