The Assin North Municipal Assembly has made giant strides in its quest to increase Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to speed up socio-economic and infrastructural development in the area.
The Assembly generated a total of GH¢621,928.40 from its IGF revenue sources out of the projected GH¢725,653.66 in 2017, representing 85.70 per cent as against 67.94 per cent in 2016.
Additionally, in the first quarter of 2018, the Assembly mobilised GH¢189,400.32, a 20 per cent target of the estimated budget of GH¢943,472.00.
Mr Nicholas Fiifi Baako, the Municipal Chief Executive (DCE), made this known at a ceremony to mark his one year in office held at Assin-Fosu in the Central Region.
He explained that out of the GH¢189,400.32 IGF mobilised in the first quarter were revenues from rent, fees and fines and licenses representing 85.52, 36.68 and 34.72 percentages respectively.
To further improve its performance in IGF, Mr Baako indicated that the Assembly had prioritised revenues of rates and lands.
He attributed the strong revenue performance to proactive measures and effective collaboration between revenue collection task force and Assembly Members.Touching on other revenues, the MCE said the Assembly estimated to receive a total of GH¢17,359,770.00 from all revenue sources, but received GH¢6,218,709.63 representing 35.82 per cent over the same period.
Of the GH¢6,218,709.63 received, it spent GH¢2, 233,462.32 on the payment of compensation, GH¢1, 710,310.45 on goods and services, andGH¢2,274,936.86 on capital investments.
On grants, of the total budgeted GH¢3,193,765.00 expected from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), it received GH¢1,602,092.08 representing 50 per cent.
The Assembly also received GH¢1, 086, 66.30 out of the expected GH¢7, 0616,022.73 representing 15.48 per cent from the Urban Development Grant (UDG), whiles out of the expected GH¢595,790.51 from the District Development Facility (DDF), no amount had been released as at June 2018.
He stated that the drastic drop in expected total grants and DACF stalled the completion of many infrastructural projects and programmes initiated by the Assembly.
As legally mandated, the Assembly disbursed a total of GH¢5,000.00 out of the budgeted GH¢45,000.00 Disability Fund in support of scores of persons with varied disabilities in 2017.
However, he announced that the Assembly had disbursed a total amount of GH¢90,000.00 to support persons with disability (PWDs) in the area, to improve their livelihoods in 2018.
The funds disbursed through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development to assist 133 beneficiaries, to pay for their education and hospital bills and businesses to become economically independent.
He called for cooperation, unity of purpose and understanding among members, to ensure rapid development of the Municipality and gave the assurance that the Assembly would put in place effective measures to cater for their welfare.
