The GMA condemned the act in a statement signed by Dr Frank Ankobea, the President, and copied the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday. It said Ghana had come far in its practice of democracy and that it was unfortunate that “we are unable to understand that elections are not about violence but rather an issue of expressing our opinion in choosing our leaders.”

The statement said; “When such violent incidence occurs, several people who otherwise were healthy sustain serious injuries that put stress on our already over-stretched and under resourced health delivery systems and in some cases adversely affect our emergency services.”

It urged all political parties and the good people of Ghana to exercise restraint and rather focus on fostering peaceful elections at all times to ensure that the development of the country is sustained.

“We also call on the security agencies to up their game and ensure that the perpetrators of such grievous acts are quickly apprehended and made to face the full rigours of the law. This will effectively serve as a deterrent to others.”

“Vigilantism should not be encouraged in Ghana,” the statement said.
