Madam Josephine Dzotsi, Volta Regional Director, Ministry of Trade and Industry has debunked claims by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the Volta Region was not getting its share of government's "One District, One Factory" (1D1F) policy aimed at creating jobs and reducing youth unemployment.
She said currently four companies were operational under the initiative in the Region with a total of 22 companies given approval awaiting financial assistance from the banks.
Madam Dzotsi said the companies are Caltech Ventures at Hodzo and IC Agrictech at Sokode, all in the Ho Municipality.
She said the rest are KOP Farms and Fresh Field, in the North Tongu District.
Madam Dzotsi's statements were in response to a press release by the NDC saying there were no signs of 1D1F in the Region.
She said the focus was to revive ailing companies and provide start-ups to new enterprises.
The release from NDC, signed by Mr. Kafui Agbleze, the Regional Communications Officer of the Party and made available to the Ghana News Agency, alleged that GCB Bank had supported the 1D1F initiative with GHS1billion being disbursed to all regions for the establishment of a factory in each district but Volta was left out.
It said though the government was already in the third year, there was no "sign" of 1D1F in the Volta Region.
The release said the 1D1F promise was a campaign "gimmick" and that there was no serious commitment to it and people in the Volta Region.
"The people of the Volta Region are awakening to the fact that the 1D1F is a promise and fail initiative without any serious commitment to redeeming it and can best be described as a failed promise, a cheap talk and an empty slogan," it added.
The release said though the President also promised to make Ketu North and South industrial hubs, "there was nothing ongoing in Ketu".
