Scores of aspiring nursing students held a demonstration in Zimbabwe's south-western city of Bulawayo after an advertisement for enrolment into a state-funded training programnme turned out to be a hoax.
They thronged Mpilo Central Hospital, the announced venue of the exercise, to try their hand in the programme only to be turned away, the state-run Chronicle newspaper reports.
Zimbabwe's health ministry has since dismissed the advertisement as a fake.
In a tweet, the ministry said online applications to the programme closed on 31 August and had not been extended as announced in the advertisement.
Bulawayo Provincial Administrator, Judith Ncube, is quoted by the newspaper as saying that the enrolment was unfair because it sidelined prospective applicants in rural areas with limited access to the internet.
