The family of the late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills has expressed delight about the nomination of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the running mate to the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the December 7, 2020 general election.
A statement issued by the office of the running mate dated July 25, 2020 said the family made that known when they paid a courtesy call on Prof. Opoku-Agyemang at her office in Accra last Friday.
The family, led by its linguist, Opanin George Aryee Thompson, was in Accra to mark the eigth anniversary of the passing of former President Mills.
The statement said the family pledged their support for Prof. Opoku-Agyemang and the NDC and wished her well in the upcoming election campaign.
They advised her to focus on the task ahead and not be distracted by negativity from persons who did not wish her or the nation well.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang thanked the family for their support and also pledged to live by their advice and work hard towards securing victory for the NDC on December 7.
She said, "For me, victory for the NDC means victory for the whole of Ghana and an opportunity to work hard to address the many development needs that confront our nation today.
"It will also be a victory for the legacy that President Mills left this country. "
