A total of 88 needy but brilliant students studying in various universities and other tertiary institutions over the weekend received a total of GH¢129,000 as scholarship funding from the Member of Parliament (MP) for Savelugu Constituency in the Northern Region, Hajia Fathahiya Abdul-Aziz.
This formed part of the second phase of the MP disbursement fund initiative, which enables the students to pursue their education without financial hassles across their academic endeavours.
The money was sourced from the MP Educational Endowment Fund, an initiative launched earlier this year with the aim of supporting vulnerable students in the constituency.
Some of the beneficiaries received amounts ranging from GH¢1,000, GH¢2,000, GH¢5,000, GH¢10,000, and the highest being GH¢15,000, mainly for their academic fees in their various fields of study.
This is the second disbursement since Hajia Fathahiya Abdul-Aziz became an MP, and close to 500 students from both tertiary and pre-tertiary institutions have already benefited from the fund.
At a ceremony in Savelugu to disburse the fund, the MP stated that the support to needy but brilliant students was meant to enable them to continue their academic careers in tertiary institutions across the country.
She emphasised that supporting students to excel in their education within the constituency was close to her heart.
The MP also noted that education is key to the development of every society and that she deemed it fit to bridge the educational gap and empower the youth of her beloved constituency.
She further mentioned that this initiative was part of a pledge she made to the people of Savelugu during the 2024 general election.
Rukaya Yahya, a student at the University for Development who benefited from the fund, expressed gratitude to the MP for the generous gesture.
