Presidential staffer, Nana Yaa Jantuah, has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against contesting the 2028 general elections, warning that the party is not in a strong position to mount a credible challenge and risks suffering a heavy defeat.
Speaking on Asempa FM on Thursday, January 23, Nana Yaa Jantuah said the NPP is still grappling with the aftermath of its 2024 election loss, with internal challenges continuing to weaken its focus and organisational strength.
According to her, the NPP should rather concentrate on rebuilding its structures instead of fielding a presidential candidate in 2028.
“The NPP should not even contest the 2028 election because the shock of the 2024 election defeat hasn’t left them. They can’t focus. At this point, they should sit down and rebuild the party. In 2028, they can field parliamentary candidates but not a presidential candidate, because as things stand now, it won’t work,” she said.
She warned that any attempt by the party to contest the presidency under current conditions would end in failure.
“They will lose miserably. There’s no way this is going anywhere,” she added.
Nana Yaa Jantuah further argued that the current administration under President John Dramani Mahama is performing better than previous governments, making it even more difficult for the NPP to regain public confidence.
“With the improvements we are seeing and the recognition President Mahama is receiving, it will be very difficult for the NPP to succeed in 2028, especially when many Ghanaians still see the party as divided and unsettled,” she noted.
