President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that the government is intensifying the fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, while calling for stronger collaboration with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).
Speaking during his encounter with Civil Society Organisations on Monday, March 30, he acknowledged the leading role CSOs have played in environmental protection and climate advocacy.
According to him, the government is ramping up efforts to tackle galamsey and promote sustainable management of the country’s natural resources.
He stressed that collaboration with civil society will be key in safeguarding land and water bodies for future generations.
“Civil Society has led in environmental protection, climate advocacy, and the fight against illegal mining. Government is intensifying efforts to combat galamsey, promote sustainable land and water use and strengthen environmental governance.
“We look forward to closer collaboration in safeguarding our natural resources for future generations. Let me affirm that civil society is not an adversary of government. Indeed we are partners in Nation Building,” he said.
