Spurs went in front in the 27th minute as Harry Winks superbly picked out Kieran Trippier coming in from wide, and the right-back was left in acres of space to square first time for Dele Alli to slide in and force the ball home from a couple of yards out.

However, Real Madrid will feel hard done by after replays showed Trippier was just offside when the ball was played out to him.

Spurs made it 2-0 11 minutes after the interval as Alli turned one way and then the other to leave Casemiro on the deck, before firing in a shot which was deflected past Kiko Casilla off Sergio Ramos.

Manchester City came out on top in a thrilling 4-2 win against Napoli in Champions League Group F on Wednesday that qualifies them for the round of 16.

Napoli took the lead when Lorenzo Insigne curled a shot past Ederson after being played into the area with a lovely first-time pass from Dries Mertens, before Otamendi headed City level with a powerful back-post effort from a Ilkay Gundogan corner.

City started the second half just as they finished the first, scoring from a corner kick. John Stones rose highest to meet Leroy Sane's cross and power a header past Pepe Reina to make it 2-1. But Napoli evened things up at 2-2 from the penalty spot when Sane fouled Raul Albiol in the area and Jorginho stepped up and converted the penalty.

Sane then redeemed himself with a brilliant individual effort on the counter-attack, running the length of the field and losing the ball only for Sergio Aguero to recover it and score the winner. The goal was Aguero's 178th in a Man City shirt, a new record for the club.

Raheem Sterling then added City's fourth with a smooth finish on the counter to send them on their way to the knockout rounds.

Shakhtar Donetsk took a big step toward reaching the round of 16 with a 3-1 win against Feyenoord in the other group match.

Two quick-fire strikes from Facundo Ferreyra and Marlos in the 14th and 17th minutes cancelled out Nicolai Jorgensen's opener for Feyenoord to make it 2-1 before the 20-minute mark.

And Marlos added his second and Shakhtar's third in the 68th minute to put the result and all three points in hand for the hosts with two matches left to play. The result eliminates Feyenoord from qualification for the round 16.

Group E leaders Liverpool cruised to a 3-0 defeat of Maribor an Anfield.

After a goalless first half, Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for the hosts in the 49th minute -- the Egypt international acrobatically flicking Trent Alexander-Arnold's whipped-in cross past a well-beaten Jasmin Handanovic in the Maribor goal.

James Milner saw a penalty saved but Emre Can sealed the three points just after the hour mark with a well-places low finish after a quick one-two at the top of the box with James Milner. And Daniel Sturridge added a late third to complete the scoring on the night.

Meanwhile, Sevilla jumped into second with a 2-0 victory over Spartak Moscow.

Clement Lenglet and Ever Banega gave the La Liga side a commanding advantage before the hour mark, while Ze Luis collected the consolation goal for the visitors, who dropped to third place in the group.

In Group G, Besiktas were denied a place in the round of 16 after a 1-1 draw against disappointing Monaco in Turkey.

Monaco's Rony Lopes stroked home from distance with a fine curling shot from outside of the area after a turnover in the Besiktas half.

However, Cenk Tosu salvaged the point for the home side nine minutes after the break, converting from the penalty spot after Ricardo Quaresma was taken down by Jorge in the area.

The draw, combined with FC Porto's 3-1 defeat of RB Leipzig in the group's other game, kept the Turkish side from the knockout round for at least another few weeks.

In that game, goals from Hector Herrera, Danilo Pereira and Maximiliano Pereira overcame a 48th-minute strike from Timo Werner to put the Portuguese giants securely in second.
