Mr Albert Aryeeetey Commey, the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Aduana Stars, has refuted allegations and complaints made by Al Tahadi to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), that Aduana is uncooperative and had given them a hostile reception on arrival in Ghana.
He said the allegations were false and an attempt by the visiting team to frustrate and divert the attention of Aduana from the clash, "Aduana would never allow itself to be frustrated". “We have no plans to frustrate them why should they frustrate us", he added
Mr Commey was addressing a press conference to respond to issues that has emerged following the arrival of Al Tahadi in Ghana for their second league game against Aduana Stars at Dormaa Ahenkro.
“Per CAF Regulations if your distance is more than 200 kilometres you need to fly your opponent. So we decided to fly them to Kumasi. But from Dormaa to Kumasi the distance is 195 Kilometres which is less than 200 Kilometres meaning we could bus them to Dormaa.
“Originally, we were making arrangements for them to consider hotels in Sunyani, so we took pictures of hotels in the city for them to make their own choice. After sending these pictures and communicating with them on whatsapp, we expected a reply from them but we never got any response from them", he added.
He said Aduana officially lodged a complaint to the Ghana Football Association(GFA) over conduct of Al Tahadi officials for delays in responding to them, as it was leading to their inability to meet the deadline for booking flight for them.
The GFA subsequently, wrote to CAF to complain about the matter and they later responded by saying they would come on the February 16.
“It was a Wednesday and we told them there was no flight until Saturday, so we communicated that to them to come on Saturday. But they insisted they would arrive on Friday.
“They had discussions with their officer in Lybia, who made reference about the need to follow CAF regulations and observe due process as already stipulated. Inspite of these they still insisted they will never sleep in Accra when they arrive in Ghana as they intend to proceed to Kumasi.
“The GFA official in charge of Protocol told them to officialise their position, which they did and indicated they would go by road but requested for Police escort", he added
The CEO said when the "Lybian side finally arrived in Accra, we tried to reciprocate the gesture they gave us in Egypt, but they rejected the bus we had arranged to pick their delegation.
“They recalled the rejected bus we presented them, which we had hired with huge cost for a whole day. But they insisted they would need another bus to lead them.
He said the team had made their own arrangement through an agent in Kumasi who had booked Miklin Hotel for them but They went to book Golden Tulip. They had also exceeded the number of delegation from 25 to 41.
Mr Commey said after discussing the matter with the life patron of the Club Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu I Sports Stadium, he obliged and told him to buy the tickets for 41 member Lybia delegation.
“The Lybia side wrote to CAF even when they had not written to formally inform us where they are lodging in Kumasi. This is not even in the law and we are not against their lodging in Kumasi", he added
He said at a point Al Tahadi had threatened they would never honour the game if their request was not met until we threaten we will give the tickets to the match commissioner. The GFA emergency committee was meeting over the matter", he added.
