Olympics head to Appeals Court March 29 after High Court dismisses injunction application

Accra Great Olympics bid to preserve their Premiership status suffered another setback today (March 15) after the High Court in Accra dismissed their interlocutory injunction application brought against the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Justice Anthony Yeboah in his ruling at the Human Rights Court 2 said that he does not have the requisite jurisdiction to deal to deal with the suit which sought to prevent the GFA going ahead to start the Ghana Premier League.

Justice Yeboah explained that he could not rule on the matter because it was functis officio given that Olympics had initiated an appeal process at the Appeals Court.

He said any ruling on the matter will undermine the issue at the Court of Appeal.

Earlier, Counsel for the Olympics legal team, Kwesi Austin argued that with the status of his clients yet to be decided by the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA, they could face extinction from Ghana football if the injunction is not granted.

A member of the Olympics legal team, Amarkai Amarteifio also prayed the court to consider the "oppression of minority groups by majorities" in its ruling.

The Counsel for the GFA, Thaddeus Sory argued that Olympics had not properly invoked the jurisdiction of the court adding that the matter should be dismissed because Olympics still has pending cases relating to the suit at the GFA.

A member of the Olympics legal team, Kofi Bentil told the Graphic Online in an interview that Olympics was confident of winning their pending case at the Court of Appeal which would be heard on March 29.
