A crucial goal was scored almost unnoticed in the Swedish second-tier on Tuesday night when South African Kermit Erasmus netted for new club Eskilstuna.
It was a first goal for almost a year for the 27-year-old as he ended a horror spell at French Ligue 1 side Rennes, where he failed to find the back of the net in close on three seasons at the club.
His previous goal came while on loan at Ligue 2 side Lens at the tail-end of last season, but the promise of first team football and a chance to regain his form in the box is a massive boost not only for himself, but also the country.
Bafana Bafana coach Stuart baxter has expressed his admiration for Erasmus before and if fit, playing and scoring, he would certainly be in the national team mix at an age where he could be leading the lien at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
"I think we need to give him a bit of time, let him get kicking off. Let him play, let him get a few games under his belt, don't bring him back in when he is not ready," Baxter said last month.
"Let him get his head in order first. But I am just glad he is back playing."
Erasmus netted in his first start for his new club and although it is early days, he has at least broken his duck.
The former Orlando Pirates and Feyenoord forward has two goals in 14 national team appearances, but has seen his international career stunted by both injury and lack of opportunity at club level.
