It was all joy for Ghanaian clubs after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential aspirant, Nana Yaw Amponsah secured a kit sponsorship deal from Turkish kits manufacturing giants, Fitcom for 62 clubs for a four-year period.
At the signing ceremony held in Accra, the representatives of the clubs expressed gratitude to Nana Amponsah for securing the deal and thanked Fitcom for coming on board to support.
The kit sponsorship is spread across Premier League sides, Division One League clubs and the 16 women's league clubs in the country.
The clubs would be provided with a set of home kits, away kits, two sets of training kits, a set of tracksuit, polo shirts and bags at no financial cost.
Mr. Frank Nelson, former Hearts of Oak management member and chairman for the occasion said, the Turkish-ased kit manufacturing outfit was focused on football adding that, it was a welcoming news to the clubs.
Nana Amponsah, also the CEO of Phar Rangers, in his address said, "l realized branding was an area that needed attention in Ghana football and if we want to package our football and make good money like countries like Brazil and others were doing, then we need to brand our game well.
"I started with Phar Rangers and proposed to Fitcom why they should come to the Africa market and Ghana in particular. Branding football well makes it attractive and gives you the right kind of money in return, that is why clubs outside sell one player for so much. Football is big business, and it starts with the right branding and it is the reason Fitcom is here."
Alhaji Karim Gruzah owner King of Faisal and Nana Kwasi Achiaw president of Bechem United commended the GFA Presidential aspirant for securing the deal. “We thank Nana Yaw Amponsah for thinking ahead. We the football administrators have been suffering and this has come and we are happy for that.
Mr. Kudjoe Fianoo, the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) chairman also praised Nana Amponsah saying “every Ghanaian is mindful of the challenges facing our clubs when it comes to kitting. So this gesture coming from Nana Amponsah is timely and it’s something that we should embraced and make sure that it works”.
He admonished the clubs to study the contract well and the obligations it comes and give Fitcom the required mileage to encourage them to do more. “So as clubs we need to ensure we meet our obligations on the contract.
Demirkaya Tunahan, the General Manager of Fitcom said Nana Amponsah's ambition to take Ghana football to a high pedestal called for their support.
He said “What we are witnessing today goes beyond just sponsorship. Plans are in place to establish kit shops across the country in the short term and later build kit manufacturing factories in Ghana and this sponsorship can spread to the national teams in future."
