The President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Abraham Kotei Neequaye, has assured stakeholders and the public that the upcoming GBA elections will be transparent, free, and fair.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Neequaye reaffirmed the GBA’s commitment to accountability and open governance.
He expressed confidence in his leadership and the progress made under his administration, insisting that the election scheduled for July 12, 2025, will be run transparently.
“We are fully committed to a clean process. There will be no disqualifications, and every contestant will be given a fair opportunity,” he said.
Mr Neequaye stated several achievements during his tenure, including the introduction of the National Boxing League, the provision of brand-new vehicles to boxers and clubs, the introduction of insurance packages for fighters, and the renovation of the GBA office.
He acknowledged that while there may have been challenges, the authority remains open to constructive criticism and is committed to resolving concerns raised by stakeholders.
This comes after the Committee for Professional Boxing Stakeholders (CPBS) raised issues regarding the timing of the elective congress and called for more transparency.
In response, Mr Neequaye said the GBA was open to dialogue and would invite CPBS representatives for discussions ahead of the elections.
“The July 12 election date stands unless changed through due process,” he stated.
The GBA President also emphasised that he was not threatened by competition and remains confident in the support he had from within the boxing fraternity.
