The Black Stars of Ghana have secured qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted in Canada, Mexico, and the United States after a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 12.
Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Mohammed Kudus netted early in the second half to hand Ghana the crucial win, ending Comoros’ recent dominance after two consecutive defeats to the island nation.
This marks Ghana’s fifth appearance at the World Cup since their debut in 2006.
In a much-anticipated return, Alidu Seidu earned a starting spot in the decisive qualifier following a lengthy recovery from an ACL injury that sidelined him for several months. The Stade Rennes defender’s comeback this season has been impressive, earning him a recall to the national team setup.
Fellow France-based player Ebenezer Annan, who features for Ligue 2 side Saint-Étienne, was also handed a rare start at left wing-back, replacing veteran Gideon Mensah.
Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who has faced intense scrutiny over his readiness for the World Cup stage, started in goal for the Black Stars and kept a clean sheet to help Ghana seal qualification.
The victory officially confirms Ghana’s place at next year’s global showpiece, reigniting national pride and hope for a stronger campaign on football’s biggest stage.
