Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, Convention People's Party (CPP) presidential candidate, has advised members and supporters of the party to conduct their campaign devoid of insults and acrimony, situations that had the potential of destabilizing the country.
Addressing the inhabitants of Awutu Township during the celebration of the Awutubia Festival at the grand Durbar of chiefs in Awutu in the Central Region, he cautioned his followers against ridiculing their political opponents.
Dr. Nduom assured the inhabitants of Awutu that the CPP was a peaceful and unity party which "will not meddle in things that will be detrimental to the peace of the country".
"As the party that gained political freedom for Ghana, our objective is to seek for the welfare of Ghanaians when we win power."
The event also marked the coronation of Nayin Kwashie Abbey, a sub-chief of Awutu.
Dr. Nduom expressed regret about the situation where conflicts have characterized political activities of some political parties, saying, "I am glad that nothing of this sort has emanated from our party so far in our tour of the whole Ghana, and for this reason I called on you to vote the CPP for peace and development".
He assured the people of Awutu that, an Nduom-led administration will make education of children of school going age from Kindergarten to Senior High School level free, compulsory and continuous, drawing spontaneous shouts and applause from the enthusiastic crowd.
To make this possible, he explained that his administration would build standardized school facilities, which will include libraries, toilets, kitchens, classrooms, and science and computer laboratories, adding that, accommodation would also be provided for teachers in communities throughout the country.
Dr. Nduom promised to revive all the defunct state owned enterprises and to also build new factories to offer employment for the growing unemployed youth in the country.
He vouched to ensure that the poor state of the road that leads to the Awutu Township was given a face-lift when he was given the mandate to become the next President.
As part of his contribution to the celebration of the festival, Dr Nduom made presentation of GH¢1,000 and two crates of assorted beverages to the Paramount Chief of the Awutu Traditional Council, Nayin Larbi Wettey Agyemang Otabil III.
