The December 7, 2008 special voting begun smoothly early on Tuesday morning at the Asawasi Community Polling Station as well as the Oforikrom Police Park Polling Station in the Kumasi Metropolis.
A visit to the two stations by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) between 0850 and 0930 hours saw eligible voters mostly members of the security agencies anxiously waiting in a queue to cast their ballots.
Nana Akoten-Asamoah, Returning Officer at the Asawasi Community Centre Polling Station in the Asawasi Constituency said out of the 138 voters expected to cast their ballot, 27 had done so as of 0900, and that all materials for the elections were available.
He said there were no hitches and hoped the election would be peaceful.
At the Oforikrom Police Park Polling Station, Mr Seth Kofi Kyei, Returning Officer told the GNA that 22 out of the 68 eligible voters had cast their ballots as of 0950. He also underscored that all election materials were supplied.
Even though few security personnel were seen in queue at this station, the Returning Officer was optimistic that voters would come and cast their ballots before 0500pm.
As at 1100 hours, when GNA visited the District Electoral Office, where Polls were taken place, the atmosphere was very calm with 163 voters who had cast their votes.
Mrs Alberta Mensah-Bonsu, Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Electoral Officer commended the voters for their comportment and said that she hoped this year's election would be peaceful and successful.
