Some security and media personnel working in Tema Metropolis who cast their votes on Tuesday during the special voting exercise have expressed their disappointment at the inability of the Electoral Commission to transfer their votes to their preferred constituencies.
Most of them from the Police, CEPS, Military, Fire Service and the Navy openly complained that even though they work in the metropolis they reside in other constituencies different from the designated polling stations for the special voting.
They contended that though they indicated their preferred constituency on the list compiled for the special voting, the EC failed to transfer their names to those constituencies making them to vote for only the Presidential Candidates.
One of the security personnel told Ghana News Agency at Community One police polling station that after being in the queue at Community Two police polling station for about 45 minutes, the polling assistant informed him that he could only vote for the presidential candidates.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) John Kudalor, Tema Regional Police Commander who cast his vote at Community One police station at about 0950 hours said he was unhappy that he could only vote for the presidential candidates.
DCOP Kudalor said even though the voting on the special day had so far been smooth in the Tema Region, it could have been better if personnel were given the chance to vote at their preferred constituencies.
On the issue of security in the Region on December 7, he gave the assurance that personnel made up of all the security services would be deployed to all 524 polling stations in the Region.
DCOP Kudalor said two or three personnel would be positioned at the 43 identified flash points in the Region while the rest would have a personnel.
He noted that all the constituencies in the Region had two or more flash points and named Tema East, Tema West and Kpone-Katamanso as some of the constituencies under the Tema Police Region.
The others are Sege, Ada, Ningo-Prampram, Ashaiman, Adenta and Dodowa.
He said the Regional Electoral Task Force was prepared to deal with any situation that might occur on December 7, adding that security personnel on duty at the polling stations would not be armed but patrol men on standby would carry arms.
