Voting at the Akwatia Constituency is proceeding peacefully and orderly with some polling centres recording good number of votes as at 1000 hours.
Most of the polling stations opened at 0700 hours with long queues.
At the Urban Council Hall 'A', as at 08:42 hours, 118 out of 489 registered voters had cast their ballots, Mr Seth Agyei, the Presiding Officer (PO) said.
At the Urban Council Hall 'B' as at 08:45 hours, 138 out of 518 had exercised their franchise, according to the PO, Charles Danquah.
One hundred and one voters had cast their ballot at Saint Roses Junior High School (JHS) as at 08:55 hours out of the voter population of 437.
When the GNA visited the centre, three polling officials were virtually on holiday with only one person voting.
The PO, Miss Matilda Anarkwa, hoped that voters will start trooping in later in the day.
At the RC Primary 'A' and 'B', long queues had formed and the voting was proceeding slowly.
At the RC Primary 'A', out of the 880 registered voters 128 of them had voted as at 0900 hours, according to Emmanuel Nkrumah, the P.O.
At the RC Primary 'B', out of 804 registered voters, 159 had cast their votes as of 09: 08 hours.
A visit to seven other polling centres earlier saw voters patiently waiting for their turn in queues.
Five candidates are contesting the Akwatia seat, including Dr Kofi Asare, NPP, Mr Baba Jamal, NDC, Mr Samuel Agyei, CPP, Mr Basil Ahiable, Independent and Mr Samuel Abrokwah, Independent.
Meanwhile, 12 observers from the Catholic Secretariat are observing the elections at Akwatia.
