The United States calls on the Pakistani Government to offer continued cooperation with the international community in order to thwart possible terror attacks, said the White House on Monday.
"I think there is no doubt that Pakistan has taken some positive steps," Spokeswoman Dana Perino said at the daily press briefing, after a senior commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba was reportedly arrested by Pakistani troops on Sunday.
Zaki-ur-Rehamn Lakhvi, Chief Operational Commander of Lashkar-e- Taiba, was arrested during a raid conducted by the troops near Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, according to Pakistan's news networks.
"What's critically important now is that we continue to work together -- the Indians, the Pakistanis, the United States, and our allies -- to prevent follow-on attacks after the attacks in Mumbai," Perino said.
"That's what we are continuing to focus on," she added.
The Pakistani Government is under pressure from the United States and India to take action against Lashkar-e-Taiba. Indian security and intelligence services believe that the group has been involved in the Mumbai attacks, which claimed nearly 180 lives and injured over 300.
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Sunday asked Islamabad to take action against the suspects, saying that there was evidence to suggest that people living in Pakistan were involved in the Mumbai attacks.
