The League of Arab States (LAS) Secretary-General Amre Moussa has expressed hopes that the United States and Europe will show impartiality in dealing with the Arab-Israeli conflict.
The LAS supports dialogue between Syria and Israel under the mediation of Turkey, Moussa, who is attending the "Europe and the Arab World" conference in Vienna, said in an interview by Austrian newspaper "die Press."
He hoped the dialogue could "turn into a direct and earnest negotiation as soon as possible," Moussa said in the interview to be published Friday.
The new U.S. government under Barack Obama should change stances on the Middle East, so as to act as a fair middleman in solving Arab-Israeli conflict, and that is the only way for Washington to improve its image in the Middle East, he said.
Moussa also hoped that the Europeans could play an active role in the region, pushing forward the negotiation between Israel and Palestine for an agreement as early as possible.
"Most importantly, they must make Israel stop expanding their settlement," he said.
