French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner has invited his counterparts from other European countries to meet in Paris on Tuesday to discuss how to promote a truce for the escalating conflict in Gaza between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, ministry sources said.
The meeting would begin at the French Foreign Ministry at 6:30 p. m. (17:30 GMT), said the sources.
The Ministers would talk about humanitarian aid to the region. Measures such as sending emissary and reactivating an EU monitoring mission in the region would also be discussed.
The air strikes launched by Israel have killed more than 350 people and wounded some 1,700 others in the Gaza Strip since Saturday.
A statement of the United Nations said that at least 57 of the dead were civilians.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry said that four Israelis, three civilians and a soldier, had been killed by mortar and rocket attacks by Palestinian militants during the same period.
The UN and European Commission have called for an immediate ceasefire on both sides.
