The following are the highlights of Chinese President Hu Jintao's tour to Turkmenistan where he met with his Turkmen and Uzbek counterparts and is scheduled to attend an inauguration ceremony for part of the China-Central Asia gas pipeline.
ASHGABAT -- Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao met here Sunday his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov. The two leaders agreed to continually advance bilateral cooperation in an all-round and sustainable way.
Hu outlined four areas for the two countries to promote their pragmatic cooperation, including an early start of the mechanism of Sino-Turkmen
cooperation committee, a boost in energy and other cooperation, as well as the implementation of credit projects they have agreed upon.
ASHGABAT -- Hu held talks with Uzbek President Islam Karimov and exchange views with him on bilateral relations and other issues of common
concern.
Hu praised Uzbekistan's role as the rotating chair state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), saying it had actively coordinated the body's development and made a series of significant proposals.
TURKMENABAT -- Hu is schedule to attend on Monday a ceremony marking the completion of one of the two pipelines that make up the China-Central
Asia natural gas pipeline together with leaders of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
The 1,833-km pipeline starts from the border between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, and runs through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan before reaching
northwest China's Xinjiang region.
