Workers of the Upper East Regional branch of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the weekend appealed to government to reduce the recently increased utility tariffs, complaining that they could not afford it.
The workers said the current utility rates released by the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) were too high.
Mr. Martin Pwayidi, Regional Chairman of TUC, said workers in the region would continue to assist the TUC in its pursuit for better conditions of service.
Mr Samuel Atasige, Municipal Council Labour Chairman, noted that there was the need for government to consider the plea of workers and help them to cushion the extra expenses that the recent utility rate increases would cause.
