Canada would provide financial assistance to create opportunities for Egyptian youth, Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Lawrence Cannon announced Wednesday.
Concluding a one-day visit to Cairo, Cannon said it was clear that providing jobs for young people and addressing unemployment were among the greatest challenges to Egypt's and the region's economic, social and political progress.
He said the package, which amounted to 11 million Canadian dollars (11.09 million U.S. dollars), will cover skills training and expertise, journalism building, responses to violent conflict and electoral systems improvement, among others over five years.
During the visit, Cannon met members of the current Egyptian government, including Prime Minister Essam Sharaf and Foreign Minister Nabil Al-Araby, as well as members of civil society.
