The battle for global presence, global relevance and global dominance is won or lost in the mind. If you will win, it will come from the mind and if you will lose, it will start from the mind.
The human mind is a channel through which things come into the realm of things that are. It is the mind that begins the journey from things to be into the realm of things that really are.
For individuals to be able to break through the barriers of going global and being relevant and dominant on the global stage, it will all start from the mind.
It is for this reason that the Springboard, Your Virtual University, a radio programme on Joy FM used last Sunday’s edition to do a play back of a message from Rev. Albert Ocran which took listeners through how to break the barriers to going global.
He said some people were already present on the global stage as they had Facebook accounts and other social media accounts that gives them platforms to be present globally but had not been able to be relevant because they were not yet providing any solutions that people could appreciate around the world.
“Some people too have some level of relevance beyond our borders but are not yet dominant and the battle for global presence, relevance and dominance can only be won or lost in the mind,” he noted.
Ability to unlearn
Rev. Ocran also pointed out that learning was more than just acquiring new knowledge as it also involved the ability to unlearn old knowledge that had outlived its relevance and it that regard forgetting was just as important as learning.
“So for us to be able to operate within the global framework, it is important for us to unlearn some things before we can relearn. Some old models are so ingrained in our operating system and our hard disk is full of irrelevant materials so we have to format the hard disk so we can upload another programme and store new data,” he stated.
“If your mind is the operating system and your operating system is running on a software that is outdated and a new version of the software is out, in order to install the new one, you have to uninstall the old one so that the new one can give you more power and more productivity,” he added.
He said formatting was erasing the content on a hard drive and setting up a new file system to enable the device to read from it and write on it.
“With certain kinds of thinking and positioning, some of the discussions we are having about global relevance will have no place in your life so you need to erase the content of the hard drive of your mind. Considering some of the mindsets we have grown up with and the orientation that most of us have had, if we try to install the new software that is global oriented, there would be a crash,” he said.
What must be erased
Touching on some of the things that needed to be erased from the mind, the motivational speaker said the same old thinking leads to the same old result.
“There is no way you can think in the same way that you have always done and somehow assume that you will get a whole bunch of new results. If you want different results, you must think differently,” he stated.
Below are some of the things that he listed that should be erased from the human mind;
Nostalgia; he said, “This is where you celebrate someone’s achievement or one award or one great moment you had and you consistently refer to it.”
