All is set for the second Poultry Value Chain (POVAC) fair scheduled for Wednesday, 21st and Thursday 22nd March 2018 at Sunyani.The United States Department of Agriculture’s Regional Agricultural Counsellor, Charles Rush, Mr Ron Strikker, the Netherlands Ambassador to Ghana and Dr. Gyiele Nurah, Minister of state at the Presidency, in charge of Food and Agriculture, are expected to grace the opening session.
Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, Team Lead at Agrihouse Foundation and organisers of the Poultry Fair (POVAC), in a statement, expressed excitement about the event and the contribution it would make to create awareness of the opportunities within the Poultry value chain, and encouraged stakeholders to patronise the two– day fair being held at the Eusbett Hotel, Sunyani.
The event, on the theme: “Employment Creation along the Poultry Value Chain: the Public Private Partnership Approach,” will bring poultry sector value chain representatives together to promote, exchange ideas, forge sustainable business partnerships and promote best practices to grow poultry in Ghana.
The idea is to sustain the poultry industry, connecting the public sector to the private, which is a great starting point towards commercialising the industry thereby creating more jobs. On the opening day of the activity- packed fair, experts, including Dr. Charles Stark, Associate Professor of stored Product/Post Harvest Entomology and Plant, Oklahoma State University, USA, Dr. George Opit and Dr. Thomas Nortey, will discuss poultry nutrition, Feed Ingredients, testing and improved technologies for quality feed preparation along the poultry value chain fair.
There will also be a session on the theme: “Poultry as a Business: The PPP Approach,” which will be led by Mr. Kwame Agyemang Tuffour, CEO, Jokas Farms. On the second day of the fair, Mr. Kayode Oladipo and Mr. Kwamina Arkorful Director, Animal Production, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, will discuss the topic “Creating Employment through the PVC: The case of Ghana, Nigeria and Togo.
The last of the seminars will be on “Poultry processing and Marketing: A potential for Job Creation in the PVC,” to be delivered by Mr. Joseph Boakye Yiadom, of Joerees farms.The programme highlight for the two days of the event will also include; Exhibitions that will have companies and industry players to showcase their products and services for two days.
There will also be Business to Business (B2B) Sessions, that will provide avenues to establish business relationships, network, discuss and sign contracts; and Food Bazaar, that will showcase exclusive eggs and chicken dishes.Aside corporate sponsorship from Frankatson, Park Agrotech, Holland Akorkor and partnership by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Poultry Value Chain (POVAC) Fair is organised by the Ghana Poultry Project (GPP), Assist Management in Poultry Layer Industry by Feed Improvement and Efficiency Strategy (AMPLIFIES) and Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers (GNAPF).
The Fair is supported by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Agrihouse Foundation, a non-governmental agricultural capacity building, innovation and project management organisation, with a special focus on changing and shaping the conversation on agriculture through the promotion of people-impact programmes, projects, exhibitions and initiatives, targeting students, women, farmers, farming associations, agribusinesses and the entire actors within the value chain.
