Mr. Addae Antwi Boasiako, Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, has applauded the Management and staff of AngloGold Ashanti, Iduapriem Gold Mine, for its immense contribution to improve their host communities.
Speaking during the visit and inspection of the operations of the Mine, Mr Bosiako emphasised the need to educate the communities on minimal generation of waste and also it’s recycling.
Mr. Boasiako commended the Mine for the numerous interventions such as the Vegetable Farm Project in Teberebie, a host community. He said such projects and interventions, which include the donation of computers for ICT training in schools, construction of clinics and school buildings and Malaria Control Programmes, promotes a healthy relationship with the host communities.
Responding to the CEO’s remarks, Mr. Jasper Musadaidzwa, Managing Director of Iduapriem Gold Mine, said the Mine would continue to work with the Ghana Minerals Commission and the other regulatory bodies in the mining industry to enhance performance in all areas of operations.
“By this we will be contributing meaningfully to the development of the economy and the country as a whole,” he said. Measured by production, AngloGold Ashanti is the third-largest gold mining company in the world.
AngloGold Ashanti produced 3.8Moz of gold in 2017, generating $4.36bn in gold income, utilising $830m capital expenditure. AngloGold Ashanti has an attributable Ore Reserve of 49.5Moz of gold and an attributable Mineral Resource of 208.2Moz.
