Three companies have been given the nod to construct three factories in the Akuapem North Municipality under the One District One Factory (IDIF) initiate by the Government.
The factories include a palm oil processing factory at Yenseso, a coffee processing factory at Akropong and a pork-processing factory at Larteh. This was disclosed by the Akuapem North Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Dennis Edward Aboagye, at the celebration of the 34th Annual Farmers Day of the Municipality at Mamfi.
He said next year, the Assembly would develop 60,000 oil palm seedlings and 120,000 coffee seedlings for distribution to farmers to cultivate to supply the factories for processing. Mr Aboagye said next year the Municipal Assembly would launch the Youth in Agric Business to get young people into farming.
He explained that under the system, the assembly would plough large tracts of land and distribute it to interested young people, who would be provided with free seedlings and technical support.
Mr Aboagye said this year, the Planting for Food and Jobs attracted 214 farmers, who benefitted from 1,180 bags of compound fertilizer and 345 bags of urea. He said the Government had also provided financial support to 250 women at the Adawso Market to enable them to expand their business and provide market for the produce of the farmers.
He said by 2020 about 1,000 market women would be supported.
