The GSE-CI extended losses to the third consecutive session, declining by 0.19 points (-0.01%) on the back of downward price movement in an insurance stock to close at 2,496.71 with a -2.94% year-to-date return while market capitalization declined marginally to settle at GH¢60.18 billion.
SIC Insurance Limited (-4.55%) dropped by a pesewa to close at GH¢0.21, dragging the GSE Financial Index down by 0.37 points (-0.02%) to close at 2,120.37 with a -1.55% year-to-date return. Manufacturing stocks recorded no gains or losses for the second straight session, closing at 4,646.03 with a -0.16% YTD return.
Activity levels weakened with 42,339 shares valued at GH¢72,226.97 changing hands from 141,326 shares valued at GH¢212,089.82 recorded at the previous session. MTN Ghana (MTNGH) dominated trades by both volume and value, accounting for 76.29% of total volume traded and 33.56% of total value traded.
We expect trading activity to increase ahead of 2018 full year earnings results.
