MTN Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to empowering young people in the country through its support for the 2025 National Youth Mentorship Summit and Awards. Georgina Fiagbenu, Head of Corporate Communications at MTN Ghana, emphasized the importance of investing in the youth, citing their crucial role in Africa's future. She noted that MTN Ghana's partnership with the National Mentoring Programme was aimed at equipping young people with the skills and knowledge they needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Madam Fiagbenu highlighted the MTN Skills Academy, a digital skills development program that was part of the company's efforts to empower young people and make them future-ready. The program, which was a partnership with Coursera, offered a range of digital skills courses, including data analytics and cybersecurity, and targeted one million people in Africa, with 100,000 of those in Ghana.
Ebenezer Terkpeh, Education Portfolio Advisor at MTN Ghana, emphasized the importance of digital skills in today's world. He noted that MTN Ghana had transitioned from a telephone company to a technology company, and as such, there was a need for employees with specific skills. He stressed that the company's future depended on empowering young people with digital skills, and that the MTN Skills Academy platform was a key initiative in this regard. The platform, which was a partnership with Coursera, offered a range of digital skills courses, from basic to advanced level, and provided certificates from top universities such as the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard. Mr. Terkpeh also highlighted the career guidance platform, which provided a career pathway and recommended universities and courses based on a user's interests.
The MTN Ghana Foundation, which is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) wing of MTN Ghana, has implemented various initiatives to support education and economic empowerment in the country.
