A digital payment card for managing fuel expenses for trucks and other vehicles has been launched in Accra.
The fleet card solution enables corporates and enterprises to monitor expenses, track fuel quantities, and optimise operations to ensure greater efficiency and confidence in fleet management.
Known as the Zenith-Visa fleet card, the solution was designed through the collaborative efforts of Visa, a world leader in digital payments and Zenith Bank (Ghana) Ltd, a leading financial institution in the country.
The Visa Fleet Card has been integrated into a fuel management information system, allowing drivers to refuel trucks without handling cash.
As a result, when a driver fuels a vehicle, the transaction is processed digitally via a Point of Sale (POS) system, which is automatically recorded in a central management information system.
This provides businesses with real-time visibility into fuel usage, ensuring transparency and reducing leakages through controlled card usage.
The Zenith-Visa fleet card was launched at a ceremony in Accra last Thursday (August 28).
The Country Manager of Visa Ghana, Fabrice Konan, explained that the absence of actionable business intelligence made it difficult for corporates and enterprises to navigate the complex business environment, exposing them to fraud, cash management inefficiencies, among others.
He added that the introduction of the first Visa fleet management solution in the country, which has cross-border capabilities due to Visa’s wide acceptance network, ensured that businesses enhanced their operational efficiency, strengthened security to offer greater flexibility.
“This collaboration underscores our commitment to providing cutting-edge payment solutions that drive efficiency and transparency for businesses in Ghana,” Mr Konan stated.
He further commended Zenith Bank for its role as a trusted partner in this initiative, stressing its shared goal of driving efficiency, accountability, and transparency for businesses of all sizes.
In a speech read on his behalf by the bank’s divisional head, Kwame Adadey, the Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Ghana Ltd, Henry Onwuzurigbo, said the innovation not only enhanced operational efficiency but also reflects Zenith Bank's commitment to sustainability, as the fleet cards were made from eco-conscious bioplastic.
“The launch of the Zenith Visa Fleet solution underscores our unwavering dedication to empowering businesses through technology and delivering sustainable value.
“This collaboration with Visa strengthens our position at the forefront of digital banking, offering businesses unparalleled control, visibility and efficiency to drive long-term growth,” he said.
By fostering innovation and delivering value at every touchpoint, he said, Zenith Bank sought to ensure that its customers were equipped to thrive in today’s dynamic landscape, adding, “Whether navigating local markets or expanding internationally, Zenith Bank remains a trusted partner in accelerating business growth and unlocking new opportunities”.
