MTN Ghana on Wednesday presented a cash sponsorship of GHC70,000 to the Oguaa Traditional Council towards the ongoing Fetu Afahye celebration in Cape Coast.
Additionally, the telecom giant had offered free complimentary data package to all subscribers in the area.
The move sought to enhance digital connectivity by improving internet access, facilitating smoother communication, supporting digital record-keeping and enabling online outreach programmes.
The presentation forms part of MTN Ghana's corporate social responsibility and its dedication to promoting Ghana's cultural heritage.
Mr Godwin Mensah, Chief Corporate Services Officer of MTN Ghana, stated that supporting the festival aligned with the company's commitment to community development.
He pledged continued support for initiatives that preserved Ghanaian culture and emphasised that MTN Ghana regarded culture as a vital element of the nation's identity.
To further engage the community, he said MTN had set up booths at vantage points featuring numerous promotions, encouraging people to buy and pay using Mobile Money (MoMo), as well as download the MyMTN and MoMo apps.
"We have partnered with all retailers here in Oguaa to accept MoMo payments. So, all retail points are equipped for purchases via MoMo," he explained.
He also announced that a gaming night and musical concert will be held on Friday, September 5 and Saturday, September 6, at the Chapel Square.
The Oguaa Fetu Afahye festival, celebrated annually, is a vibrant and significant cultural event in the Central Region, drawing visitors from across Ghana and the globe.
It offers an opportunity to honour ancestors, seek blessings, and strengthen community unity, while boosting local economy.
The festival features traditional rituals, durbars of chiefs, cultural performances, and other activities showcasing the rich heritage of the Oguaa Traditional Area.
Accepting the sponsorship cheque, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area, expressed gratitude to MTN Ghana for its generous support.
He noted that the sponsorship would supplement the festival secretariat's resources, ensuring the successful organisation of this year's celebration.
Osabarimba urged other corporate organisations to follow MTN Ghana's example and support the Oguaa Fetu Afahye festival to help promote Ghanaian culture.
