MTN Ghana has launched its maiden DigiFest 2025 in Accra, bringing together industry leaders, innovators, and stakeholders to celebrate the country's vibrant digital ecosystem. The event showcased innovative solutions made in Ghana, highlighting the country's growing digital talent and potential to drive economic growth and innovation.
In his address, Mr. Steven Blewett, CEO of MTN Ghana, emphasized the importance of digital innovation in driving Africa's progress. He noted that the world was evolving rapidly, with technology rewriting the rules across every industry. "Where we are today, in 2025 and where we were in 2015, it's worlds apart, the world has evolved," he said.
Mr. Blewett highlighted MTN Ghana's commitment to building an inclusive digital society, citing the company's investment of over $1 billion in Ghana's digital backbone over the past five years. He also emphasized the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to transform the economy, from improving healthcare delivery to making financial services smarter and more inclusive.
Mr Ibrahim Misto, Chief Digital Officer at MTN Ghana, in his speech said "We are building platforms that fuse entrepreneurship and opportunities. Our experiential booths will bring the MyMTN app, Mcare, and other digital platforms closer to everyday users. We'll also be showcasing the power of design and inclusivity in digital innovation through our UX/UI (User Experience/ User Interface) hackathon." He added that the event would spark curiosity and inspire the next generation of innovators through AI (Artificial Intelligence) community sessions and gamified engagements.
The MTN Digifest would feature various activities, including a UI/UX festival, AI day, gaming competition, and trade visits across the country. These initiatives aim to promote digital innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusion, ultimately driving Ghana's economic growth.
Sylvia Otuo Acheampong, Chief Products and Services Officer att MobileMoney Limited (MML), noted that by leveraging digital innovation, businesses would stay competitive, improve operations, and drive growth. The MoMo Business App, which she launched at the maiden DigiFest event, would tempower merchants and businesses in Ghana, by providing a range of features that simplify financial management and enhance customer experience.
Local innovators like Nana Ghartey, creator of Abena AI, a voice assistant that caters to Ghanaian language speakers, were present to showcase their innovations and services. Ghartey's app has been well-received, especially by the elderly and those with visual impairments, who can now easily check and recharge their phone credits in Twi, Ga among others.
