Two decades ago, StarLife Assurance embarked on a journey built on a simple conviction: that every Ghanaian deserves the confidence to plan, grow, and protect what matters most.
As we celebrate 20 years of StarLife, we celebrate trusted partnerships, people-centred innovation, and meaningful impact that aligns with Ghana’s development agenda and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
From our first policy to our latest digital solution, one truth has remained constant: Trust is Timeless.
Innovation: Securing Futures Digitally
(Supporting SDG 8, SDG 9, SDG 10)
In a rapidly changing world, StarLife has consistently reimagined how life insurance is delivered. Our operations are driven by digital transformation to make protection simpler and more inclusive. We have implemented digital and paperless processes that reduce turnaround time and make interaction easier. We rely on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Robotic Process Automation, and we were early adopters of chatbots, the MyStar Mobile App, and USSD code *7373.
Through these digital platforms, clients can pay premiums, check policy details, initiate claims, request partial withdrawals, and pay utility bills. This removes geographical barriers, enhances financial inclusion, and supports SDG 8 and SDG 10. Tailor-made solutions such as the UPP Scan Plan and products with accessible premiums empower individuals and families across income levels, supporting SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
Strategic Partnerships: Expanding Reach
(Supporting SDG 10, SDG 17)
Strategic relationships have broadened accessibility and allowed us to provide solutions for different segments. Our alliance with the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) provides bespoke life insurance solutions to member churches, pastors, church workers, and families, helping bridge financial inclusion gaps in faith-based communities.
Our digital partnership with Figtech (MyFIG) allows delivery of tailored, affordable life insurance to younger, tech-savvy, and lower-income customers. Collaboration with eGotickets embeds life insurance into the events ecosystem by providing event attendees with cover against unexpected incidents. These partnerships show insurance meeting people where they are and promoting resilience.
Sustainability at the Core: A Greener Tomorrow and Stronger Communities
(Supporting SDG 3, SDG 4, SDG 5, SDG 10, SDG 13)
StarLife’s legacy is linked to social and environmental impact. We believe business success must align with caring for people and the planet.
Environmental Stewardship – Protecting Our Planet
(SDG 13)
Digitization and green initiatives have reduced our ecological footprint. Digital channels and paperless processes reduce paper consumption and emissions. Flexible work-from-home policies reduce commuting while digital customer channels lower in-branch traffic. We prioritize virtual engagements, reducing travel-related emissions. We have planted over 1,000 trees nationwide, supporting national climate efforts and SDG 13.
Social Impact & Community Well-being – Putting People First
(SDG 3, SDG 4, SDG 10)
We support deprived groups, public health, and education. A highlight is our Mother’s Day initiative, where we pay medical bills of mothers unable to settle expenses after delivery. We have supported about 50 nursing mothers across major hospitals, reinforcing SDG 3.
We provide aid to institutions such as Kressner Children’s Home, Dzorwulu Special School, Precious Feet International, and the Senior Correctional Centre, promoting inclusion in line with SDG 10. We have also supported the Down Syndrome Foundation, Hope Setters Autism Centre, and provided medical equipment through African Health Supplies. We supported victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage and strengthened community health systems.
We support over 10 hospitals affiliated with GPCC churches and Ghana Prisons Service infirmaries with medical supplies. Annually, we organize free medical screening for clients during Customer Experience Week, promoting SDG 3. By supporting menstrual hygiene initiatives, we contribute to SDG 4 and SDG 5, ensuring girls stay in school.
Governance and Employee Well-being: Strong Institutions, Thriving People
(Supporting SDG 5, SDG 8, SDG 16)
StarLife believes strong leadership, ethical conduct, and empowered employees drive sustained success.
Leadership Built on Integrity
Our Executive Management has strong gender diversity—two women and one man—reflecting SDG 5. The Board of Directors shapes strategic direction, risk management, and long-term value creation. Virtual board meetings promote efficiency and reduce emissions, supporting SDG 16.
Ethics, Fairness and Accountability
We uphold fair policies that promote equity, ethical conduct, and transparency. Grievance mechanisms allow employees, customers, and stakeholders to raise concerns. A confidential whistle-blower system supports reporting of unethical practices. An anti–sexual harassment framework ensures a safe and professional environment, reinforcing SDG 5 and SDG 16.
Employee Well-being and Performance
(Supporting SDG 8)
We believe a thriving workforce drives business success. We provide regular health check-ups and wellness sessions led by medical and mental wellness experts. Our annual “Race of the Champions” sales programme rewards top-performing Sales Executives with prestigious trips, reinforcing a high-performance culture.
The “StarLife Engage” initiative empowers back-office staff to engage directly with clients and frontline teams, deepening understanding of the business and strengthening client-centricity.
Looking Ahead: Building on a Legacy of Trust
As we enter our next chapter, StarLife remains committed to innovation, sustainability, and community impact. We will design and deliver inclusive products that protect the dreams of individuals, families, and businesses. We will continue harnessing technology and partnerships to broaden financial inclusion, ensuring life insurance is accessible to all Ghanaians. We will scale up environmental and social initiatives to strengthen our contribution to the SDGs and national development priorities.
Our success over 20 years has been built on integrity, innovation, and commitment to people. As we look to the future, one thing remains unchanged:
For StarLife Assurance, Trust is—and will always be—Timeless.
