The Yellow Ladies Network(YLN) at MTN Ghana has marked its first anniversary, celebrating a year of empowering women and fostering leadership within the organisation.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, said the network had grown beyond expectations and had become a powerful platform for growth, confidence, and leadership among women.
He noted that women played critical roles in both business and society, adding that their contributions had significantly influenced MTN Ghana’s success. He emphasised that mentorship was essential to leadership, urging women in leadership positions to support and uplift others rather than compete with them.
He further encouraged women to embrace their uniqueness and make their voices heard, while also calling on men to actively support and promote women in the workplace.
The Chief Finance Officer of MTN Ghana and Chairlady of the YLN, Antoinette Kwofie, in her remarks, said the network had, over the past year, created a safe and supportive space for women to connect, share experiences, and grow professionally.
She stated that the initiative had driven impactful programmes, including health awareness discussions on issues such as uterine fibroids and breast cancer. She added that the network had raised GH¢200,000 to support breast cancer initiatives, with donations made to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and Breast Care International.
She explained that beyond professional development, the network had strengthened relationships among staff and contributed to a more inclusive workplace culture.
Looking ahead, she indicated that the network planned to roll out more initiatives, including leadership summits, mentoring programmes, and community outreach activities aimed at empowering more women and promoting gender balance within the organisation.
Delivering the keynote address, Founder and CEO of Brainwave Tech Africa, Angela Kyerematen-Jimoh, highlighted the importance of mentorship and giving back as key drivers of leadership.
She stated that true success was measured not by personal achievements but by the impact made in the lives of others. She encouraged women to support one another and to take advantage of platforms like the Yellow Ladies Network to build confidence and leadership capacity.
She further noted that organisations could not build a sustainable future without fully including women in leadership and decision-making processes.
A panel discussion during the event also featured industry leaders including Ayisha Ayensu the CEO of Christie Brown, Uche Ofodile CEO of MTN Benin and Theresa Ayoade CEO of Charter House who shared insights on mentorship, sponsorship, and personal development.
They stressed the importance of confidence, self-awareness, and continuous learning, while highlighting the role of mentorship and opportunity in shaping successful careers.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment to advancing women in leadership and strengthening support systems within MTN Ghana.
