MTN Ghana has launched the second edition of its DigiFest, a digital innovation initiative aimed at building practical skills, showcasing emerging technologies and creating opportunities for collaboration among businesses, technology players, academia and customers.
The month-long initiative, which would extend into October, was launched alongside the MTN Tech Fair 2026, a three-day exhibition featuring digital innovations from MTN Ghana and its partners, including the University of Ghana, startups and other technology companies.
Mr Ibrahim Misto, Chief Digital Officer of MTN Ghana, said that the DigiFest was intended to move beyond showcasing technology to creating opportunities for people to interact with, learn from and apply digital innovations.
He said that the programme would feature masterclasses, panel discussions, conferences, workshops, focus groups, immersive experiences and other activities designed to strengthen practical digital skills and encourage collaboration within Ghana’s technology ecosystem.
“Travel to the future, bring one idea and turn it into action,” Mr Misto urged participants, noting that major innovations often began with a single idea or curiosity that was eventually turned into something practical.
He said that the initiative was also designed to bring customers, partners, communities and employees together to explore how digital solutions could address real needs.
Mr Stephen Blewett, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, said that the rapid pace of digital evolution made it important for Ghana to develop its own skills and solutions rather than simply consume technologies developed elsewhere.
He emphasized that Ghana was well positioned to become a hub for digital solutions because of its pool of educated young people and innovative ideas, but stressed the need to take those ideas beyond the conceptual stage and into the market.
“We need to bring those ideas to the market, not just in Ghana, but to Africa and the world,” he said.
Mr Blewett said that MTN was particularly interested in digital solutions that addressed genuine customer and societal needs, rather than technology developed without a clear problem to solve.
He cited data, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, cybersecurity, home security, gaming and other emerging technologies as areas shaping the company’s digital evolution.
He encouraged Ghanaians to see themselves as active participants in the country’s digital future.
The DigiFest also highlights MTN’s digital services and innovations across areas including gaming, streaming, television, applications, home connectivity, cloud and enterprise solutions.
Ms Dorinda Bruce-Acquah, Senior Manager, Home Commercial and Marketing at MTN Ghana, said that the growing number of devices and activities taking place in homes made reliable connectivity increasingly important.
She noted that MTN was investing in solutions to support the changing needs of households as people increasingly worked, learned, conducted business and entertained themselves from home.
Mr Abdul Razak Ali, Chief Commercial Operations Officer of Mobile Money Limited, said that digital innovation must ultimately solve real problems for customers, particularly in financial services.
He also added that MTN’s digital transformation efforts included using technologies such as artificial intelligence and application programming interfaces to improve customer experience, prevent fraud and deepen financial inclusion.
The Tech Fair, which forms part of the DigiFest programme, provides a physical platform for participants to explore the technologies and solutions on display and engage with innovators.
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, cut the ribbon to officially open the Tech Fair.
The 2026 edition of DigiFest follows MTN Ghana’s inaugural festival last year, with this year’s programme expanded to include activities such as a gaming conference, User Interface/User Experience (UI/UX) sessions, an AI conference and the AI Hackathon in partnership with the University of Ghana.
