He was accompanied by Dr. Mahamadu Buwumia, the incoming Vice President and a large entourage of New Patriotic Party (NPP) members.

Hundreds of residents of Kumasi lined the streets from the Kumasi International Airport to the Manhyia Palace where he met with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

There were deafening sounds of ‘vuvuzelas’ and shouts that could be heard from afar, from the enthusiastic crowd, most of whom were dressed in NPP colors.

Nana Akuffo-Addo had paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene during the electioneering campaign and asked for the prayers and blessings of Asanteman.

Yesterday’s visit was, therefore, to thank the Asantehene and the entire Asanteman for the prayers and blessings he offered for the victory.

The President-elect asked Otumfuo Osei Tutu to support him to enable him to govern the country and deliver his campaign promises, saying that with the support of the Asantehene and the entire Asanteman, his government would be beneficial to all and sundry in the country.

“We came to thank Otumfuo Osei Tutu, the Asantehene, for his support throughout our campaign and, indeed, ask for his total support as the next government because the task ahead is very huge; you together with Asanteman should support us so that it become beneficial to all,” Nana Akufo Addo said.

The visit, however, coincided with the ‘Awukudae festival’ of Asanteman, and as tradition demanded, Otumfuo Osei Tutu did not speak on such occasions.
Outside the Arbitration Hall of the Palace where the meeting took place, large crowds had gathered to catch a glimpse of the President-elect.

In an interview, some of the people called on him to be a unifier and also fulfil the campaign promises he made to the people of Ghana.
