Zee TV on DStv Channel 452, premieres the 2016 Farhan Akthar and Arjun Rampal blockbuster, Rock On 2, this Sunday 30 July at 16:00 CAT.
The much-anticipated sequel to the 2008 hit movie “Rock On”, also features Shraddha Kapoor, Purab Kohli, Shashank Arora, and Prachi Desai, in lead roles.
Rock On 2 follows on with the story of desi rock group Magik, a few years on from where the first movie left us. Once a lead vocalist, now living low key in a remote village in Meghalaya, Adi (Farhan Akhtar) has obvious unresolved issues that drove him to this isolation. The rest of the band members have embraced logical career transitions. Joe (Arjun Rampal) is now a reality show judge and owns a club and the grizzly KD (Purab Kohli) has resigned himself to having a sober haircut and career option to match — he composes tunes for those with little opinion on music. Adi's wife, Sakshi (Prachi Desai) lives in Mumbai with their son, and while their separate living arrangements may hint at the obvious, it has much to do with an event in Adi's past.
The storyline also has budding singer Jiah Sharma (Shraddha Kapoor), daughter of music maestro, Pandit Vibhuti (Kumud Mishra). Jiah divides her time between visiting remote villages to record folk numbers and singing her own compositions.
When a fire destroys Adi's village, he returns to Mumbai and to music. The idea is to host the mother of all charity concerts. This is when the estranged music group members chance upon Jiah and Uday (Shashank Arora), a sarod player who doubles up as a bassist.
The rest of the film covers their challenges in putting up a rock show despite opposition from local authorities and how some of them deal with the skeletons of their connected past. The musical drama has gone a long way in persuading aficionados of Hindi film songs, to listen to and appreciate the rock music genre. Accompanied by a fresh take on friendship, Rock On 2 will no doubt tug at your heartstrings with its great storytelling and soundtrack. Conflicts, great characterisation and camaraderie all play nicely together in this musical drama, only on Zee TV this Sunday at 16:00.
