UNTIL Gospel musician Pastor Zita Kusi stepped out from the comfort of her church Royal House Chapel to do commercial music she never knew how difficult it was.

She has been singing at the Royal House Chapel and other churches for the past 17 years and told Graphic Showbiz recently that doing commercial songs was way different from the ministering in church.
 
Pastor Zita explained that recording fees, doing music videos  and promotion is capital intensive and one needs to be ready to invest.

“Singing in church is way different from doing commercial songs. With the church you have the band and other backing vocalists supporting your work but it is way different if you want to come out of the church and do your own thing.

“Promoting music videos and studio fees are all on you. I always tell my colleagues to stay in the church and continue singing there if they are not ready to do commercial music. I have been in the church for the past 17 years but I am now ready for the bigger market,” she told Graphic Showbiz.

Pastor Zita said that doing commercial music had made her realise no one really knew her when she thought she was doing great in the churches.

“It is a different thing when you step out to do commercial songs. I am very popular in most churches but I realised the larger Ghanaians didn’t know me when I stepped out to do commercial songs,” she said.
 
Pastor Zita is out with her maiden album My Thanksgiving which has songs like Rejoice, Am Yours, Oyonkopa, Blessed, Glory Dey, Jehovah and she says she wants to see her album doing wonders by the end of the year.  

Expressing her opinion about Gospel musicians collaborating with secular artistes, Pastor Zita, who intends to create a ministry that propagates the word of God said it is very wrong to do that. “Light and darkness do not mix and there is no way I will do that,” she added.

Pastor Zita has been nominated for this year’s Contemporary Ghana Gospel Music Awards (CGMA) in the Video of the Year and Most Promising Female Act of the Year categories.
