Music lovers celebrating Ghana’s independence were treated to a lively night of live band music, dance and themed fashion when the maiden Ghana Independence Day Jersey Party was staged on March 6.
Organised by the HiWave Band, the event drew more than 2,000 patrons to the Afrikiko Riverfront, where revellers turned up in colourful Ghana football jerseys to mark the national holiday.
The riverside venue, overlooking the Volta River, was transformed into a vibrant entertainment hub as patrons danced and celebrated in an atmosphere blending music, fashion and patriotism. Organisers said the event was designed to offer a fresh Independence Day experience while showcasing the appeal of lifestyle entertainment outside the capital.
The evening began with high-energy music from disc jockey DJ Vigos, who entertained the crowd with a mix of Afrobeats, hip-hop and party favourites. His set kept patrons on their feet as the Independence Day festivities gathered momentum.
Hypemen Tim Jeezy and Big Paradise further heightened the atmosphere, engaging the crowd with energetic performances that kept the celebration lively throughout the night.
Speaking during the event, Tim Jeezy said the strong turnout highlighted the appetite for new entertainment experiences beyond Accra.
“The energy tonight has been incredible. Seeing people travel from different places just to celebrate Ghana and enjoy live music together tells you that events like this are needed,” he said.
He added, “Akosombo has the vibe and the scenery, so bringing a party like this here makes it even more special.”
Big Paradise also commended the organisers for creating an event that merges music, fashion and national pride.
“This is not just another party. It’s a celebration of Ghana’s independence and our music culture,” he said.
“The jerseys, the dancing and the live band performance made the night unforgettable. If this continues every year, it will become one of the biggest Independence Day events,” he added.
The highlight of the evening came when the HiWave Band mounted the stage with an electrifying live performance that had the crowd singing and dancing along.
Patrons also took part in games and interactive activities throughout the night, enjoying the festive atmosphere as the maiden event wrapped up on a high note.
