A five-year-old boy who was held in an underground bunker in the state of Alabama, US for nearly a week is now safe while the gunman who abducted him is dead.
Steve Richardson of the FBI's office, said on Monday that negotiations had deteriorated with the 65-year-old abductor, Jimmy Lee Dykes.
FBI agents entered the bunker to rescue the child after fearing that he was in "imminent danger." Richardson said the boy was being treated at a local hospital, but was physically unharmed.
It was not clear how Dykes died. Dykes abducted the child last Tuesday from a school bus after fatally shooting the driver.
