Dr Omane Boamah, Minister of Communications on Friday urged students to take the study of Information and Communication Technology seriously to improve the quality of their educational pursuit.
He said the Ministry is committed to improve access to ICT across the country and pursue its vision of promoting a viable integrated national development process within the global setting.
In a speech read on his behalf at the launch and site inspection of Digital Terrestrial Television of GOtv Ghana Limited, an affiliated company of MultiChoice Ghana, Dr Boamah said ICT had become increasingly important of today's global economy.
He said over the years, a number of initiatives have been made by Government and other agencies to develop the ICT-infrastructure so as to bridge the digital divide between Ghana and the developed world.
He said the launch puts Ghana at the forefront of deploying the latest digital terrestrial television technology adding: "It was another exciting milestone in our digital roadmap."
Dr Boamah said the launch of GOtv is a proof that the digital migration is possible.
Mr Kinsley Afful, Business Manager of GOtv said the facility is the first Digital Video Broadcast (DVB-T2) television service which has already revolutionised the pay television industry on the African continent.
Mr Afful said GOtv currently provides a broad range of content cutting across news, current affairs, general entertainment, documentaries, music, sports and a host of other household channels.
He said some of the most exciting African and International channels available to GOtv subscribers include Africa Magic World, Select Sports, Discovery World, Aljazeera, Channel O, and Blackbelt TVand VOX Africa.
Mr Afful said the GOtv product is easy to use and do not require a satellite dish or a smart card.
He said one need a decoder and antenna to set up the device and start enjoying the viewing experience.
