The world must make it clear to Iran that it will face "military sanctions" if it does not stop its alleged military nuclear programme, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday.
"Iran continues to defy the international community, and it does not appear that it is trying to halt its military nuclear programme," he said in Jerusalem while meeting Sri Lankan Foreign Minister G.L. Paris.
"I believe that the international community needs to increase the sanctions and make it clear that if Iran continues with its programme, there will be military sanctions," he added "I think there are other means which can cause Iran comply to the demands of the international community."
A statement from Netanyahu' s office did not elaborate on what he meant by "military sanctions." A senior Israeli official said he assumed the premier wanted to make clear that Iran could face a credible military option.
