At least 1,000 prominent leaders and corporate heads from across continents are expected to meet at the 2013 Global Summit of Women in Kuala Lumpur in June to network and discuss women's pivotal role in the increasingly knowledge-based world economy.
The summit, billed as the Davos for women, would help women in bridge building and accelerate their access to the top, summit president Irene Natividad said on Wednesday.
"We are not signing documents, instead we will have very practical outcomes in terms of businesses being formed, in terms of ideas exchanged that women can bring home to their country and in terms of inspiration that the women leaders who come at the summit will generate among those who participate at this global forum," Natividad told the press at a pre-summit briefing.
"Our theme this year 'Women: Creating New Economies' actually underscores in reality that is all over the world and that is women are changing the global marketplace by the businesses they create usually the kind that people have not thought before, by the sense of responsibility as business leaders towards their consumers, their workers and the communities they operate in," she added.
Besides networking and discussions, the summit also offers delegates a window into the Malaysian market, an economic powerhouse that expanded at a rate of 6 percent last year.
The Malaysian international trade ministry would arrange business-to-business meetings between delegates and Malaysian entrepreneurs at the summit.
The summit would be held on June 6-8 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
Its agenda includes plenary sessions on global and regional business trends, a CEO forum, and entrepreneurs forum, skill building sessions and networking opportunities.
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga, Vietnam's Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan and Polish Deputy Head of State Ewa Kopacz, and a host of prominent corporate leaders would join 30 ministers from different countries in a roundtable meeting at the summit.
The summit would be chaired by Malaysian Prime Minister's wife Rosmah Mansor.
The Global Summit of Women was founded in 1990 in Washington D. C.
