The Upper East Region Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has posted 157 new Community Health Nurses to districts in the region.
They are to undergo two days' orientation to introduce them to the service's ethics and other professional conduct.
The areas are the Bolgatanga and Bawku municipalities, the Kassena-Nankana East and West and the Garu-Tenpani districts. The others are the Talensi-Nabdam, Bongo, and Builsa districts.
The nurses were trained for two years in community health nursing, general nursing, communication skills, research method, and health service management among others.
They are expected to report to their District Health Directorates where they would be reposted to community health base planning service compounds (CHIPS).
The Regional Director of Health Services Dr. John Koku Awoonor-Williams, said midwifery and clinical nurses would soon be posted to the district hospitals to promote quality health care in the region.
He said the nurses would undergo one year rotational duty within the districts which would include an intensive field practical work while they wait for their final examination results from the Nurses and Midwifery Council.
Dr. Awoonor-Williams said additional 131 enrolled health care assistants who would serve as auxiliary at the clinical level would soon graduate to add to the number.
He said the service had received 450 motor bikes and 23 hard body Toyota land cruiser pickups to ease the transportation problems in the region, adding that all CHIPS compounds in the region would be renovated to house the nurses.
