An electrician who secured the duplicate key of a four-wheel drive belonging to his boss and attempted to steal the vehicle was Thursday sentenced to five years' imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.
Yaw Kwakye, who was charged with stealing, pleaded guilty and the court presided over by Mr. D.E.K Daketse convicted him on his own plea.
The court ordered the release of the vehicle to Mr. Felix Boadu Addo, the complainant.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr. Reindolf Agyeman told the court that accused who lives at Ngeleshie Amanfrom in Accra was the houseboy of Mr. Addo.
During Kwakye's stay at the complainant's house, he attempted to steal Mr. Addo's four-wheel drive vehicle with registration number GT 6663-09 by stealing the duplicate ignition key.
Mr. Addo reported the matter to the Police and when Kwakye was quizzed, he denied it and also refused to surrender the duplicate key.
The prosecution said due to the behaviour of Kwakye, Mr. Addo sacked him.
On December 24, 2009 at about 1:30 pm, Kwakye contacted a witness in the case to assist him to steal the complainant's vehicle parked at Kingsway Stores yard.
The witness feigned interest and alerted the Police.
The prosecution said the witness and Kwakye went to the yard to drive away the vehicle valued at GH¢50,000.
The Police, however, emerged at the scene and arrested Kwakye and when he was searched two posters with inscription "Buy Me" were concealed in his bag.
